It was love at first sight when Heather of Myrtle et Olive first stepped into the Whispering Rose Ranch’s Mountain Vista, a private estate with a charming Spanish Revival infused architecture. It overlooks some of the most striking views of the Santa Barbara wine country. The exterior details are mostly hand-picked historic pieces that were shipped from Spain by the owner, the famous Horse Whisperer, Monty Roberts. I discovered “The Whispering Rose Ranch” by chance when I was traveling alone to Santa Barbara to be inspired – and the next thing I knew, I had to be back to showcase this hidden gem to the world.

Heather’s inspiration came entirely from the stunning location, that oversized Spanish colonial door, wrought iron windows and earthy terracotta tiles. “I created a colour palette of rich berry hues, organic green with softer neutrals to complement the beauty of the surrounding architectural details and warmth in colours. The garnet, berry tone was carried throughout the tabletop design with foraged briars, pinot noir and hand lettered paper suite by Written Word Calligraphy. Mis-matched, earth tone vintage furniture from Found Rentals were thrown in to counterbalance a potentially formal mood. The soft neutral colours from the draped silk linen, vintage dinnerware and fragrant garden spray rose added elegance to the overall look.”

A final touch of the gorgeous mare “Black Beauty” was definitely prominent for celebrating at the world’s most prestigious ranch.
