I appreciate a beautiful editorial mixed with a bit of real history. Today, I’m excited to share a fine art romantic shoot by designer and stylist Roberta of The Romanticist Studios and photographer, Elizabeth LaDuca taken at the historical Fort Adams, a former United States Army post in Newport, Rhode Island. From Roberta, “The forces of nature that gave the settlers of Rhode Island one of the finest natural harbors in the world, Narragansett Bay, also presented them with military challenges. While Fort Adams was built to withstand wars, its distressed walls witness the most beautiful love celebrations in present days, including this intimate wedding inspiration.”

Our couple wished to fully embrace the environment. Decoration and floral created by Laura Jean Floral was minimal to accentuate the wall textures, while the softness of their own gestures created the atmosphere of romance. The soft bridal beauty in an Alexandra Grecco gown was another nod to romance while the groom’s suit paid homage to the colors of the sea and uniforms once worn there.

Floral designer, Laura-Jean, used a mix of lisianthus, amaryllis, pieris, tuberose, carnations, jasmine and seasonal greens.

The harshness of the old officers’ quarters offered the perfect juxtaposition to the delicate ceremony. The loving couple reads their vows beautifully calligraphed by Gracefully Lauren against the wall ornate with simple greenery. The reception is hosted in the vaulted, arched chambers with brick ceilings and granite walls of the Casemates. The windows are former ‘gun ports’ for large cannons and they provide glimpses of water and the soft light to the tables.
