We are celebrating 31 years of marriage this year and have always had date night. Planning, anticipating, and participating in a mutually fun activity with each other helps us remember WHY we fell in love and remain committed to each other. Date night has been essential to the success of our marriage.
Here’s my suggestion for a cool date-Go sailing together! One of our most memorable dates was the afternoon we went sailing on San Diego’s Mission Bay. We rented a 20′ sailboat for a couple of hours. At that time, it cost us about $20. When I was at the helm, I got us stuck in the mud near the shore-TWICE!-and my husband, my knight in shining armor, stripped down to his skivvies, dived in the bay, and got the rudder unstuck. I laughed so hard I almost…well you get the picture.

Our local zoo (a nice one) has outdoor evening concerts during the summer. Tickets are $8 per adult, plus I’d bring a picnic lunch full of cheese, crackers, sparkling water, and other goodies. And If I still had money leftover I’d splurge on some decent folding lawn chairs!
