Sip on some fizz and bring on the frills!

The anticipated Fizz & Frills special issue here! On September 9, 2012, we hosted our second Fizz & Frills in the charming Old Town Pasadena with Lovely Jubilee and had great success! We had a tremendous turnout of brides and frill lovers alike, ready to shop and be inspired for their big day. We were absolutely thrilled to bring awesome shops, like 31 Bits, Paper Pastries, Olivia Nelson, Daughters of Simone, Petit Plume, Ticings, J and R Foods, Veiled Beauty and many more! Check out our full recap on p. 94.

In this issue, we talk about a city safari wedding that the Utterly Engaged team put together for Propel, a photography workshop by Caroline Tran. You will get a behind-the-scene look at a photographer’s passion to share and teach her craft to aspiring photographers and artists, and how an editorial shoot unfolds. You will find these Propellers in our 11 up and coming photographers to watch out for in 2013.

The frill lover in you will also get tickled pink by a dramatically romantic wedding filled with sparkle and glamour, set in the historic Plaza Hotel in New York. And if you remember Hazel Bourget of Blu Bungalow, the elite event planning studio where we held the first Fizz & Frills last year, you will enjoy the He Said/She Said article in this issue, where we interviewed her and her husband of 8 years on their love story.

As we near the end of 2012, we leave you with this last issue for the year and we will be taking time to reflect on the years past and look to the future to set new goals to reach new heights. We look forward to see in the new year!

We are still so high from Fizz & Frills this past Sunday. It turned out so beautifully frilly when everyone and everything came together. We wouldn’t be able to do it without our shoppers, sponsors and vendors! We love you so dearly! Just because Fizz & Frills only has only popped up on the west coast, doesn’t mean we can’t include shops from far and wide! Introducing The Menagerie, which means an establishment of luxury and curiosity, where you’ll find a few of our favorite shops displaying their bestselling products in styled vignettes. Make sure to stop by and check out Mamie + James, Hushed Commotion and Handmade by Sara Kim. Their products won’t be for sale at the event, but you are more than welcomed to swoon over their beautiful work and get the 411 on how to get your hands on one!

The last of our shops is Veiled Beauty. Her veils are unique and exquisite! And the owner Kathy has quite a story behind the store.

From the age of 6 I have been winding bobbins and designing in my dreams. I received my Fashion Merchandising and Interior Design Degree from George Fox University in Oregon. I was pushed into the Bridal business in 2005 when I landed my first job after college at Santa Barbara Bridal. I worked on the sales floor and running my own successful Bridal Alteration business. I first began designing veils because the lead-time is so outrageously long and the veils are so poorly marketed that I was intrigued by the challenge of offering something more accessible to the procrastinating bride. I stumbled upon my first veil creation when I was working for a wedding dress shop in Santa Barbara California. I made some mock veils for the mannequins as displays when… lo and behold my veils kept selling.

The first couture dress I ever cut into was Diandra Douglas’ (Yes, Michael Douglas’ ex wife) Elizabeth Fillmore gown. She had a dress disaster and came to me to transform a sample dress into a size 0 three days before her wedding! With shaking fingers and trembling lips I delivered her dress to her Montecito estate the morning of her wedding with just hours to spare. I followed Diandra around as she did this and that for about two hours. We toured the estate as she introduced me to gardeners and servants, we received a Buddhist blessing, she sorted out family mishaps between her son getting a ride to the wedding and she picked up her diamond crown from her safety deposit box at the bank before she ever tried on her potentially fitting and potentially not fitting wedding dress! With nerves on edge I finally breathed a sigh of relief as I zipped her into her perfectly sculpted gown for the first time!
